Event traffic managementin Coventry, the Midlands and across the UK

Event Support Team delivers full event-day traffic management to keep spectators safe and traffic flowing. We can create your traffic plan or implement an existing one - covering vehicle and pedestrian flow, parking, public transport, and any road closures or diversions. Working with police, venue stakeholders, and local authorities, we minimise congestion and community impact for a smooth, well-organised event. Services range from planning to on-site execution.

Road Signage

We can provide you with advance warning signs and all traffic management signs for your event

Road signage is vital for event traffic management: it guides drivers to the site, keeps flows smooth, and reduces congestion; steers pedestrians to safe crossings and routes; manages vehicle movements with parking directions and closure notices; and preserves clear access for emergency services. Event Support Team relies on signage to keep people informed and the event moving safely and efficiently.

Temporary Drop-off areas for Park & Ride and Taxis

We provide professionally managed temporary drop-off areas for Park & Ride and taxis. When managed effectively, these measures cut congestion, improve safety, and streamline arrivals.

Our team handles:

  • Site layout that separates vehicles, queues, and pedestrians
  • Clear signage/wayfinding and stewarding at peak times
  • Implementing lanes, barriers, and enforcing short dwell times to keep traffic moving
  • Accessible bays, safe lit routes, and live monitoring with rapid tweaks

We prevent this by implementing contingency routes, enforcing no- stopping zones, and coordinating stakeholder communications.

Adhering to Chapter 8 Road Safety Regulations

Chapter 8 compliant traffic management including lane closures, road closures and diversion routes

Chapter 8-compliant traffic management means following government guidelines to keep all road users safe and minimise accidents. These standards apply to contractors, local authorities, and event organisers. Compliance reduces disruption, keeps traffic flowing smoothly, and protects stewards, security, and other on-road personnel.

Traffic Lights and Management of Traffic Lights

Smart signal management during events boosts safety, cuts congestion, and improves access. By optimising timings, we reduce conflicts for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists; keep traffic moving; and prioritise emergency services and public transport. Done well, it shortens waits and improves overall network efficiency. Poorly set timings can shift congestion or lengthen queues - Event Support Team can consult to ensure signals are planned and managed effectively.

LANTRA Qualified Staff

We have LANTRA-qualified staff, bringing proven competence in safe, compliant traffic management. We supply purpose-built vehicles and well-maintained equipment - VMS boards, barriers, cones, signage, radios, and lighting - to match your site plan. From setup to de-rig, we deliver Chapter 8-compliant operations with trained supervisors on hand to keep your event moving safely and smoothly.

Traffic Management and the Community

When roads must be closed for events, keeping residents informed is essential to minimise disruption and maintain good community relations.

We recognise that road closures affect local communities, so we follow best practices in communication:

  • Advance notice: Share closure dates, times, and affected areas early so residents can plan ahead.
  • Clear communication: Use simple, accessible language across all updates.
  • Multiple channels: Reach residents through signs, flyers, social media, local press, and radio.
  • Detailed information: Provide detours, alternative routes, and practical details.
  • On-site updates: Share information at community hubs such as libraries or shops.
  • Regular updates: Keep residents informed of changes throughout the closure.

Event Support Team develops tailored communication plans to keep residents and businesses fully informed, reducing the impact of road closures and supporting smooth event delivery.

Questions

Event traffic management: your questions answered

What is event traffic management?

It is the planning and running of the roads, routes and car parks around an event: road closures and diversions, signs, traffic marshals and parking teams, so visitors arrive and leave safely and local roads keep moving.

Can you write our event traffic management plan?

Yes. We can create your traffic management plan or deliver an existing one, covering vehicle and pedestrian flow, parking, public transport, road closures and diversions. We build it with you, the local authority and the Safety Advisory Group, as we did for Tramlines and BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend.

Is your traffic management Chapter 8 compliant?

Yes. Our road closures, lane closures, diversion routes and signs follow Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual, the government guidance that keeps road users and the people working on the road safe.

Do you provide event traffic marshals?

Yes. We supply trained traffic marshals and traffic control operatives with supervisors on hand, and our teams include Lantra-qualified staff. As a CSAS-accredited provider, our officers can also direct traffic under powers granted by the Chief Constable.

Do you handle road closures and diversions?

Yes. We plan, sign and staff road closures and diversions, keep emergency access open and adapt on the day. At Godiva Festival our CSAS-accredited staff ran dynamic road closures as the site emptied.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Coventry and work across the Midlands and the whole of the UK, including Tramlines in Sheffield, Splendour in Nottingham, Wrexham match days and the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

Can you look after parking and stewarding too?

Yes. We also run event parking, pre-booked parking with ANPR entry, stewarding and security, signage and hostile vehicle mitigation, so one team covers the roads, car parks and entrances.

How much does event traffic management cost?

Every event is different, so we quote for each one. Quotes are free and there is no obligation: call 020 4538 0325 or ask for a free quote online.
