Event Support Team, a leading provider of traffic management services, was proud to be chosen to provide traffic management services for the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend 2022. The event, held in May 2022, attracted thousands of music lovers from all over the country and required a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists.
As part of the planning process, EST attended Safety Advisory Group Meetings to ensure that the traffic management plan was in line with local regulations and requirements. This proactive approach allowed ESTUK to address potential issues in advance and to implement the necessary measures to ensure the event was a success.
One of the key challenges for EST was the large number of pedestrians expected to attend the event. As a result, a park and ride service was considered unfeasible. Instead, EST’s traffic management plan required a different ingress and egress strategy that was carefully designed to ensure the safety of all attendees.
The plan also involved rerouting bus services to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, which was critical to minimising congestion and ensuring the safety of pedestrians and other road users. This required a detailed understanding of the local transport network and the development of an effective traffic management strategy.
Throughout the event, EST’s team of experienced traffic management professionals was on hand to monitor traffic flow and ensure that the plan was being implemented effectively. This included deploying road signage, traffic marshals and other personnel as needed to address any issues that arose.
Thanks to the careful planning and execution of EST’s traffic management plan, the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend 2022 was a huge success, with no major traffic incidents reported. Event Support Team’s expertise in traffic management and Chapter 8 traffic management regulations ensured that the event was safe, secure, and enjoyable for all attendees.
